Project Brief
Digitise IEHP's medical scholarship programme — scholar-facing portal for 500 physicians and nurse practitioners across 4 California universities, and an admin panel for IEHP operations staff — compliant with the IEHP Design System, IEHP Brand Guidelines, and WCAG accessibility standards.

My Ownership Breakdown
The Problem
500 healthcare scholars. Managed via email and spreadsheets. Physicians and nurse practitioners building careers had no digital home in the programme that shaped them.
IEHP's scholarship programme trained physicians and nurse practitioners across 4 California universities (UCR, LLU, LLU NP, CUSM) in 14 medical specialisations. Registrations, event RSVPs, community communications, and post-academic tracking were all managed manually.
No digital scholar identity
Scholars had no platform to maintain their profile, view scholarship status, RSVP events, or connect with peers.
No operational analytics for IEHP
Admin staff had no real-time view of programme health — no completion rates, no university comparisons, no engagement dashboards.
Bulk scholar management was manual
Onboarding a new cohort required manual data entry per scholar. No CSV import, no validation, no error-row detection.
No WCAG-compliant interface
A healthcare scholarship platform serving medical professionals required WCAG-accessible design from the start.
UX Audit
What was broken before we redesigned
A heuristic evaluation of the existing system identified these critical issues before any design decisions were made.
No scholar community infrastructure
Scholars had no way to connect with peers or build the professional network the programme was designed to foster.

Process & Approach
How I approached the challenge
Platform Scope Mapping
Scholar lifecycle (registration → active scholarship → graduation → post-academic tracking) and admin workflows (onboarding, event management, communications, reporting).
IEHP Design System Alignment
Studied and applied IEHP Design System and Brand Guidelines throughout — a compliance requirement reviewed by IEHP's own senior designer, not just a style preference.
Scholar Portal (24 screens)
3-path auth (OTP, magic link, password), 3-step registration wizard, home dashboard, news, events + RSVP, community forum, peers directory, inbox, dynamic form templates (${{EventName}} variables).
Admin Panel (40 screens)
8-chart analytics dashboard with university filter, 500-record scholars table, bulk CSV upload with error-row preview, individual scholar profile, inbox, reports, event logs.
Mobile + WCAG Review
Mobile-first variants of core flows. External WCAG review by Shriram (Senior UI/UX Designer, IEHP). Submitted to production.
Design Principles
Trust-building UX for a healthcare scholarship programme
Physicians and nurse practitioners depend on this programme for their careers. The design had to communicate institutional credibility.
IEHP design system as the baseline
Working within an established design system requires as much skill as building one. Alignment and compliance were their own design problems.
Scholars need a community, not a form
The community forum, peers directory, and event RSVP system were the purpose of the platform — not scope additions.
Admin analytics justify the programme
The 8-chart dashboard isn't decoration — it's the intelligence layer that proves the scholarship programme's impact to IEHP leadership.
WCAG as a design constraint, not checklist
Accessibility built into every component decision — from authentication flow's inline method expansion to mobile footer's accessibility links.
A platform externally reviewed by the client's own senior designer is a portfolio signal that most projects don't carry.

Scholars by University (line), Profile Completion (leaderboard), Event Registration (bars), Scholar Type (donut), Award Type (grouped bar), Engagement (diverging bar), Specialisations (pie).
Bulk upload with error-row validation
3-step wizard: Upload File → Preview (All/Without Errors/With Errors filter tabs, error rows highlighted red) → Import. Healthcare scholar cohort onboarding.
Dynamic template variable injection
Event survey and RSVP forms use ${{EventName}} variable syntax — a CMS templating system for IEHP staff to create reusable dynamic forms.

What I'd do differently

External design review is a quality multiplier
Shriram's review against the IEHP Design System forced precision that self-review doesn't. Request external review on every enterprise engagement.

Dynamic form templates need their own design system
The ${{EventName}} template syntax required a defined content API that operations staff would use. Design decisions here were product decisions — scope them explicitly.
